Physical Type Using Figures of Speech
In this assignment students conducted an exploration of how images and type can reinforce or redirect meaning. This project was completed over two weeks as a component of a seminar class in Persuasion for Design juniors at Carnegie Mellon University. A variation of the textual/visual metonymy or synecdoche assignment, students were asked to create a linguistic trope by photographing type in an environment.
Students were asked to work with a specific level of modality, or relation to the real. Concepts included verismo, surreal, hyperreal.
